The trainers of the "Learning with the Legends" seminar are simply that... Legends. Harley Race and Rick Steamboat both had storied careers in-ring, while Les Thatcher's Main Event Pro Wrestling Camp is one of the top schools for prospective wrestlers, as well as a former WWE Developmental center. Here is a quick rundown of the amazing histories of the three seminar trainers.
"Handsome" Harley Race: The 8-time NWA World's Heavyweight Champion defeated such other legendary names as Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Dory Funk Jr., Terry Funk, and Mr. Wrestling II during his career. He also was a 7-time World Tag Team Champion teaming with Larry "The Axe" Hennig. "Pro Wrestling Illustrated" named Race "Wrestler of the Year" in 1979 and 1983. He also had many successful tours of Japan including a run as the PWF World Title, defeating Giant Baba. Race entered the "Main Event" era of the WWF, winning the "King of the Ring" and began to be known as "King" Harley Race. He was a top level heel feuding with Hulk Hogan for the WWF Heavyweight Title. Race returned to prominence managing Lex Luger and then Vader to the WCW World Heavyweight Title on four occasions. Now as the promoter of World League Wrestling and the owner of the "Harley Race Wrestling Academy", Race is giving back to the business by training a new generation of talented athletes.
Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat: Won the NWA World's Heavyweight Championship by pinning Ric Flair. He then defended them against Flair in a classic run of matches. The Dragon is also an 8-time World Tag Team Champion (with Paul Jones, Jay Youngblood, Dustin Rhodes and Shane Douglas). Possibly his most memorable matches was his Wrestlemania 3 Intercontinental Title victory over Randy Savage. Steamboat defeated Steve Austin to win his final US Title. Rick Steamboat is possibly one of the most mentioned names of influences of today's hottest young stars.
Les Thatcher: Les Thatcher was a 20 year veteran of the ring, before stepping out to become one of its most influential broadcasters and trainers. During his career, Thatcher was the NWA Rookie of the Year in 1960 and an NWA World Tag Team Champion. Along the way, Thatcher began to work in various parts of wrestling broadcast, from field reporter to co-host/producer of Georgia Championship Wrestling. Later, Thatcher became a trainer and consultant for the WWE, running the Heartland Wrestling Association and Les Thatcher's Main Event Pro Wrestling Camp. A virtual who's who of wrestling has spent time training under Les in preparation for "the dance". This includes many current and past WWE stars, like Rico, Shannon Moore, John Cena, and Spanky.
The three trainers will include all aspects of the wrestling business into this three-day seminar. Topics include, but are not limited to Conditioning, Nutrition, Weight Training, Psychology, Drills, Performance, Promos, Video Tape Analysis, and much more.
